Back to School Immune Boosting Hacks

Whether you are headed back to school, have kids or grandkids headed back to school, it never hurts to boost the immune system as the seasons shift!

Most of these are what I use on a daily basis, regardless of the time of year, but if these hacks aren’t in your wellness toolbox yet, I highly recommend considering adding them to your wellness routine.

Quality Water: most of the tap water in the United States has tested positive for a plethora of chemicals, toxins, pharmaceutical residues, chlorine, fluoride (a known neurotoxin), forever chemicals and endocrine disruptors. I think spring water delivered in glass bottles is the best you can get, but we don’t all have access to that luxury. Your typical water pitcher or refrigerator filter are NOT going to provide you a clean, toxin free water. They may remove a handful of particles, but not optimal.

We rent our home and installing an under sink or whole system was not okay with our landlord, so I had to find an alternative. There are so many water filters on the market, and after much research I opted for the BluVua Reverse Osmosis. It doesn’t take up too much counter space, the pitcher glass, and the reviews were fantastic. I also like that when you purchase on Amazon, Affirm is a choice. Affirm is a program that allows one to make payments over time which makes providing clean, healthy water for your family very affordable. To me the quality of our water is one of the best investments we can make our health!

DoTerra’s On Guard Products : the hand sanitizing mist is great for your purse, to keep in your car, or in your kid's backpack. Diffusing On Guard essential oil in your home has been proven to kill airborne bacteria. The hand soap is also excellent because it kills bacteria and germs on the hand, while also protecting the skin’s natural barrier that so many antibacterial soaps destroy.

Air Doctor Air Filters: the quality of our indoor air is important because we spend so much time in our homes. If the air we are breathing is filled with pollutants, than we are literally bathing our lungs in these toxins. Although we don’t use harsh household cleaners or personal hygiene products that contain harmful ingredients, the furniture within the environment often is soaked in chemicals, the newer household construction includes irritants such as glues and adhesives, paints can be harmful to breathe in, flooring, household products such as curtains, rugs, pillows to name a few. It may be mold that you can’t see! Some houses are so airtight with new energy saving window treatments, these harmful pollutants get trapped in our homes. It may be that you have pets like we do. Air filters are a great addition to your overall health and wellness. If you are breathing cleaner, it is one less thing the body has to work to detoxify! I personally am not an Air Doctor affiliate, I just their products!

DoTerra Daily Vitamin Mix & Fish Oil : I love these for myself and my kiddos! We definitely try to eat a whole foods, organic diet. We have always included a daily multi-vitamin, but knowing this one is made of whole foods and is bioavailable and absorbed by the body makes me feel good about including it daily. Fish oil is excellent to increase the Omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for brain health. The Omega-3s specifically nourish the myelin sheath which helps with efficient messaging in the communication pathways in the brain. Think an AWESOME addition for those diagnosed with ADD / ADHD.

Vitamin D & Magnesium: These I suggest taking together, as Vitamin D relies on magnesium to do its work in the body. So if you are magnesium deficient, you could all the Vitamin D you want and it may not be effective. I lean towards taking these intuitively. Each family in our house takes a different dose, and if we are sick, we increase the amount we take! Definitely do some research and make a decision that feels right for you. And also, TEST DON’T GUESS! We get our Vitamin D levels checked annually, and sometimes twice a year. Be sure to ask your healthcare provide to have your Vitamin D levels checked. This will help you determine how much you should take a on a daily basis.

As for magnesium, there are various forms. We take magnesium glycinate known for helping with systemic body tightness. Magnesium citrate is great for calming and if you struggle with constipation. Magnesium threonate is good if you suffer with frequent headaches.

These are my tips! These are my go-to fundamentals. If we do present with something more acute, I continue with the above but add some other remedies. I’ll share those in another post.

Wishing you the best of health ~ Elizabeth
